The figure of the Child Jesus was burnt in the almost lifelike-size crib in Hachimette, on Thursday 31 December at around 10 pm, while the faces of his parents and one wall of the adjacent Catholic church were covered in graffiti.
"A passer-by noticed that the wooden panel representing Jesus was on fire: he managed to get it our of the crib, so the start of the first didn't have the time to spread," reports Jean-Marie Muller, mayor of Lapoutroie, which forms part of the hamlet of Hachimette. The faces of Mary and Joseph were also burnt – and part of Joseph's body and the head of a sheep were crudely covered in black. And right next to the crib, on a wall of the church close by, the following was written in black letters over about one square metre: "Fuck the Church" and "Antifa", with the letter "A" in capital surrounded by a circle, a traditional symbol of anarchism.
On the other hand, "Antifa" seems to make reference to an anti-fascist movement, some branches of which called, several months ago, to attack churches. But the meaning of these acts of vandalism remains obscure.Source
What's this? Antifa have started attacking churches to deflect some of the blame from Muslims?
