A German friend has noticed a change in the behaviour of Chancellor Merkel and wonders about her mental health:
‘It is the way she looks and the logical and linguistic incoherence in what she says. More and more often she just reads from a sheet of paper. Opportunities to hear her talk freely or in a live interview have become rare recently, and, on those rare occasions, she just talks about herself or comes out with the most general and trivial statements that bear little relation to what is going on around her.
‘I wonder whether she actually might be insane, and her entourage is trying to handle the situation. I am not sure whether there is law dealing with the problem of insane chancellors. After Hitler, one would expect such a law to be the first article of the German constitution.’
