I've written before about the Día de la Toma [Day of the Capture] event in Granada, held annually on January 2 to commemorate the city's recapture from the Muslims in 1492. I was there myself in 2013 and 2014 and posted photos and videos of the occasion (see here and here).

Every year there is drama between Spanish patriots and opposing leftists who think it was somehow wrong for the Spanish people to retake the city from the alien Muslim invaders who had occupied it and then expel them, along with the Jews who had collaborated with them.

This year supporters of the left-wing populist party Podemos, now the third-largest party in the Spanish parliament, have joined in the condemnation of the event. They posted this on Twitter:

It says:

No to the Toma. The taking of Granada was a genocide against the Andalusians. These fascist celebrations should be made illegal and apologies should be offered.

Here are the words of the Granada Que ritual you hear at the end.

¿Granada?
Crowd: ¿Qué? [What?]
¿Granada?
Crowd: ¿Qué? [What?]
¿Granada?
Crowd: ¿Qué? [What?]

Por los ínclitos Reyes Católicos, Don Fernando V el de Aragón y Doña Isabel I de Castilla, [From the illustrious Catholic Monarchs, Don Fernando V of Aragón and Doña Isabel I of Castile]
¡Viva España! [Long live Spain!]
Crowd: ¡Viva!
¡Viva el Rey! [Long live the King!]
Crowd: ¡Viva!
¡Viva Andalucía! [Long live Andalusia!]
Crowd: ¡Viva!
¡Viva Granada! [Long live Granada!]
Crowd: ¡Viva!

This is repeated three times and the flag is waved from the balcony after each incantation.

The video below focuses more on the opposing groups of demonstrators. The patriots are the ones on the right with the (mostly) red and yellow flags. The leftists wave green and white flags and hold a banner saying "Genocides should not be celebrated". These green and white flags, I think, are just the flag of Andalusia with a Communist star added in the middle.

  1. The problem is long, long ago, in the sense that has been indoctrinated with the latest generations distorted ideas and manipulated history.

In social unrest, the global economic crisis, appear anarchists, communists and radical separatist groups such as Catalonia and the Basque Country, with the separatists.

Childish ideas of centuries of culture and history is mixed.
