Yesterday afternoon at around 5 pm unknown persons set fire to the crib of the baby Jesus (made of wood) inside the church of St. John the Baptist in Altedo: the statue was part of the Nativity scene in the parish of Don Antonio. The Carabinieri intervened and are establishing the facts of the case, while no claims of responsibility have been received. The church, located in Via del Corso, was open to the public and access to the crib was unrestricted.

During the day in Bologna city, another crib was ruined by vandals: it was the one in Corte Isolani, in the old town. Someone stole two statues, the Madonna with child and Wise King, which were found broken into fragments in a street close by.

  1. Bologna’s church of San Petronio has a 15th-century fresco showing Mohammed suffering torment in Hell. The church is in this photograph, along with ‘nearly two thousand’ worshipping Muslims. There’s a line of people that extends the full width of the church. Police, perhaps?

  2. “Lower-class, unemployed white people lived for years in appalling slums without a breakdown of public order on anything like the present scale; in the midst of the depression, people in Brixton went out, leaving their grocery money in a bag at the front door, and expecting to see groceries there when they got back."
