Les Républicains (LR) expect to withdraw the nomination of Nadine Morano for the regional elections in Meurthe-et-Moselle, after her remarks about France, a country of "white race".

The remarks, which she made on a television programme, were as follows:
"For there to be national cohesion, we need to keep a balance in the country, that is to say its cultural majority. We are a Judeo-Christian country - General de Gaulle said it - of white race, which welcomes foreigners. I want France to remain France. I don't want France to become Muslim."

She also argued, on the same programme, that immigration should be limited by quotas based on professional skill and continent of origin. She is an MEP and a former government minister.

Les Républicains are the mainstream conservative party in France, formerly called the UMP. It is Sarkozy's party and her personal rivalry with Sarkozy seems to have played some part in this drama. She is now threatening to "get" him if he runs for the presidency in 2017.

  1. Please tell us if she decides to leave LR, and switch allegiances to the FN.

    1. The FN have said they don't want her because of various pro-immigration statements she has made in the past.
