Since the photo of the young Syrian went round the world, at the start of September, the view of refugees seems to have changed. At least in the political class, French and even European. On the other hand, the French population seems not to have significantly changed its opinion.
The institute carried out two polls: one before publication of the photo, at the end of August, the other afterwards, on 8 and 9 September. Each time the same question was posed to a representative sample of a little more than 1000 people. As regards accepting refugees, should France should follow the example of Germany which promised not to send back Syrian migrants to their country of arrival in the EU? Before the Aylan photo, 37% of those polled were in favour. After the photo, this figure rose only to 38%. And the number of people against increased, going from 44% to 49%.
