The Conseil supérieur des programmes (CSP) [Higher Curriculum Council] makes a distinction between subjects that "are mandatory for study" and subjects that are "dealt with at the choice of the teacher". Thus, the study of Islam will be obligatory, but the study of medieval Christianity optional - those who choose to teach it will have to do it only from the perspective of "the grip of the church on rural mentalities". In a society with difficulties in integration and national cohesion, it is astonishing that such curiosity is exhibited for religions that have come from elsewhere, and such manifest revulsion is displayed for our Judeo-Christian roots.
